We develop a theoretical framework for ferroelectric–superconducting coupling in bilayer MoTe₂. Motivated by experiments showing hysteretic switching of superconductivity under an out-of-plane displacement field, we propose that inter-orbital pairing provides the microscopic origin of this behavior. Using Bogoliubov–de Gennes modeling and Landau–Ginzburg theory, we show that superconductivity can coexist with moderate polarization but is suppressed beyond a critical value, producing ferroelectric hysteresis between superconducting and resistive states. Our theory also captures the enhancement of Tc near polarization reversal and predicts experimental signatures that can help test the inter-orbital pairing scenario.
