Altermagnetism constitute the third class of collinear magnetic orders, where compensated magnetism results in the characteristic momentum-dependent spin splitting. Recently, the interplay between altermagnetism and other phases of matter, such as superconductivity, has become a central focus in condensed matter physics. This includes instabilities to superconducting orders with finite-momentum pairing, spin-polarised supercurrents and equal-spin pairing (ESP) triplet superconductivity. In this talk, we show that the ESP state is necessarily non-unitary, and that the transition into the ESP pairing state is not direct. Instead the ESP superconducting phase consists of multiple phase transition. We analyse how spin–orbit coupling and symmetry-breaking perturbations influence the nature of the phase transitions.
