The quantum oscillations (QO) are periodic in inverse magnetic field and are also field-angle dependent reflecting both intrinsic and bulk thermodynamic property of the material. Consequently, the heat capacity contains the information about the QO. For a normal metal, the Lifshitz–Kosevich (LK) theory predicts the magnitude of the quantum oscillations in the heat capacity for ordinary metals to be on the order of 0.1% of the ordinary electronic specific heat [1, 2].

We have measured the low temperature heat capacity C(T, B) as well as magnetization M(T = 2.00 K, B) of V2Ga5 single crystals as a function of applied magnetic field. Our measurements of C(T, B) were carried out using custom-built rotatable micro-calorimeter. The QO signal is the most prominent, when field is oriented along the vanadium chain (c-axis), which is confirmed by the isothermal magnetization studies in [3].

Applying the FFT frequency analysis for a field sweep between 3 and 8 T at selected temperatures, we resolved a sharp frequency peak of 126.6 T, which is in an excellent agreement with our quantum de Haas-van Alphen oscillations data and those obtained by [3]. Using the two independent approaches, the effective mass m* = 0.245 has been determined with the Dingle temperature TD = 1.25 K, enabling to further estimate the quantum relaxation time, mobility and mean free path. The Berry phase ΦB was determined by the direct fit of Cosc(T, B) and using the construction of the Landau’s fan diagram.
