Argonne got involved early on in the cuprate game, but it was only in 1994 that I truly got immersed in the field when Juan Carlos Campazano approached Mohit Randeria and myself for our help in interpreting his data. I never imagined at the time that this side project would become a twenty year collaboration. Along the way, we came up with many interesting ideas about how to think about photoemission data. In my talk, I will review some of the history about what we did and its implications for more recent endeavors in condensed matter physics.
