Superconductivity in 2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenides

Semiconductor moiré materials have realized a highly tunable setup for exploring the physics of extended Hubbard models. Mott insulators, Wigner-Mott insulators, and kinetic magnetism have been demonstrated in the strong coupling limit. In this talk, I will discuss the observation of superconductivity right next to a bandwidth-tuned Mott transition in the intermediate coupling regime in twisted bilayer WSe2. Remarkably, the emergent doping-temperature phase diagram resembles that in copper oxide superconductors. I will also discuss the properties of the moiré Mott insulator and the appearance of electronic liquid crystals--self-organized states with spontaneously broken rotational symmetry—by doping the moiré Mott insulator.
